Acting for animation 4

Overview

In the last acting lesson, we started by reviewing what we had done in the previous lesson, expressing different emotions and body language by changing the way different parts of the body move.

Then learn different ways to convey emotions and act out different levels of emotions.

1. Break down

First of all, we performed a walking with mood change with each other in groups of two and asked our partners to give us advice. When performing mood change, you need to pay attention to break down, especially when the mood changes, especially slow down. It’s useful to give the audience time to react and feel the shift in mood.

2. Scene or story

Next, we followed the cue words the teacher gave us — a scene or time, the beach, a hospital, a Christmas party, Valentine’s Day, etc. One by one, we use the cue word to sketch out the actions and plots that might occur in the scene and assemble a complete picture. The final pictures are very interesting, and the cooperation between different students is also unexpected. After that, we divided into two groups to act out a scene that happened on Valentine’s Day. And imagine what the scene looked like one minute before and one minute after it happened. Finally, the three images will be coherently performed. In this performance exercise, we need to pay attention to the composition of the picture, imagine ourselves on a stage, and how arrange the positions of the actors that are most suitable for the audience.

3. different levels of emotions

Finally, we also split into two groups. There were five people in our group sitting in a row, representing five different levels from left to right. The teacher gave us a word, eg, hello, I love you, I hate you. We need to say and move the word like the person around us, and the emotion should go up or down. This exercise is beneficial for feeling different levels of emotion.

Usually, the higher your mood, the greater your physical movement.

Reflection
In general, I like the acting class very much, which is very helpful for our animation study. It helps me become more familiar with my body and how to communicate my emotions with body language. We hope to continue to offer acting classes in future semesters.
